The last thing you want on your wedding day is a load of bored kids running around wreaking havoc! Let’s face it, they don’t quite enjoy a wedding as much as the rest of us! Investing some of your planning time into their entertainment will definitely be worth it. Once the little ones are occupied and having fun, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the wonderful day for the lovely, once-in-a-lifetime occasion that it is. We’ve got some suggestions below to start you off.
If you’ve got a large enough group of little ones, giving them their own table is the easiest way to keep them entertained. They’ll be surrounded by others their own age, they can make some new friends and they’ll more than likely enjoy the freedom of being at their own table. Some colouring sheets and crayons are an essential addition to the table for when the kiddie conversation dries up!
If you’ve hired a magician for your drinks reception, there’s no doubt that the kids are going to love it! There’s a good amount of time between the ceremony and going into the dining room and, especially if the weather is bad, a magician is such an easy way to keep them occupied and out of trouble during that time.
A photo booth is another handy one that you may have already planned to get for the wedding. While the adults are finishing up their dinners or listening to the speeches, the kids will have free reign and get to make all the silly faces their hearts desire. Perfect!
If you’re due some dry weather, bouncy castles are ideal. Those kids will bounce for hours! They’ll tire themselves out too, which, let’s be honest, is not a bad thing! The only issue you’ll have with a bouncy castle is keeping your other, fully grown guests from taking over.
Lay out a few board games in the corner of the room. Easy! You could even have each child bring their favourite game. This way they’re excited to choose a game and you don’t have to worry about what they’ll enjoy.
Depending on your venue, they may be able to offer you a small room off of the main function room. Set the kids up with a couple of movies and some popcorn and create a mini cinema. You may want to organise a baby sitter for this one so no one has to miss out on the celebrations to keep an eye on the kids.
Arts & Crafts
Set up an arts and crafts table where the kids can really get wrapped up in making something. If you’re worried about them making a mess, they could make something really simple like masks from paper plates. They’ll be kept occupied while making and decorating them and no doubt afterwards when they get to wear them! This will give a good laugh to all of your other guests too!
Despite all of the above suggestions, you might want to hire a babysitter for the day all the same. Keeping the children safe, happy and entertained will be their job for the day and yours will be to do nothing other than enjoy yourself.
