Amy and Roy first met when they were both working in a hairdressing company in Dublin. Both in relationships at the time, they remained good friends for a number of years. When they both became single, they started seeing each other outside of work and it all kicked off from there! The couple got engaged on Christmas morning; Roy had placed Amy’s present under the tree, including the ring! When he went in under the tree to her her presents, he had her ring in his hand and was down on one knee.
We got Married in Castillo Santa De Catalina in Malaga City in Spain. We wanted to get married where myself and Amy and our guests could be away for a few days without interruption to enjoy the celebration.
Our favourite moment of the day was after the wedding vows when we knew it was official that we were going to spend the rest of our lives together as Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy.
Amy’s favourite part of planning the wedding would have been the girlie aspects, like the dress shopping, makeup and hair trials and the fun stuff like her hen’s party of course! For me, it was the travel back and forth to Spain to meet the suppliers and have the food tasting. And my own stags of course!
I would advise other couples to stay calm and focused on whats important to you on the day and to enjoy it. All of the prep is done before the wedding day so the day itself will run smoothly. Things can go slightly off track on the day but embrace this as your guests will never know! Do not get stressed if something is not going the same way it did in rehearsal. It will all work out perfectly in the end.
Of course, we would recommend the amazing Jenny McCarthy, who helped our day go really smoothly and not just with the photography. The rest of our suppliers were Spanish but I would most definitely recommend using a wedding planner if getting married abroad. All the rest of our suppliers were friends or some of our own Blackamber team.
Be sure to plan at least 12 months in advance. Things like hair and make up need to have a plan. Meet your suppliers early so you have lots of time to get comfortable with them and build a relationship. This also helps make everything run more smoothly and the day itself run better. Lastly, enjoy the build up to the week of the wedding and relax. It’s your big day and you only get married once.
