Childhood sweethearts Emily and Louis met as children aged 11 and 12. A mutual friend introduced them while out playing in the snow one day in December. One year later, Louis asked Emily to be his girlfriend via valentines day card and they’ve been together ever since. They got engaged at Emily’s parents’ house on Christmas Day in 2012 and got married in Finnstown Castle Hotel in Lucan, Co. Dublin.
Finnstown had everything we wanted from a venue: beautiful grounds, beautiful food, perfect room layout (it was detached from the hotel, making it feel like our own special venue for the day), friendly staff and a very efficient wedding planner. In the end, they totally exceeded our expectations and went above and beyond for us in every way.
As cheesy at it sounds, we enjoyed every minute of the day! We really enjoyed mingling, spending time with our friends and family and dancing our socks off in to the small hours of the morning.
If I could do anything differently, I wouldn’t have have tried on so many dresses! I tried on over 120 dresses when I knew all along that Myrtle Ivory was the only shop with a selection of dresses that suited my personality best. I enjoyed all of the planning though. Louis’ favourite part was planning the honeymoon.
My biggest tip to other couples planning their wedding is to enjoy every minute of it!! Do not stress over the little things as you are the only ones who lose out. I had plenty of hiccups leading up to the day (dropping my wedding cake being a major one) but didn’t let any of them ruin our day. Louis and I were extremely relaxed both on the day and running up to it. Because of this, we had the most amazing and enjoyable day. Our guests picked up on the relaxed vibe and they all enjoyed themselves too. Louis’ advice would be that you don’t need to spend a fortune on the day. It’s about who you have there and not what you spend. Be sensible! A good crowd makes a great wedding!
Jenny went above and beyond for us on our day. She is not your normal photographer. She coordinated our whole day for us, which was greatly appreciated as we hadn’t a clue what to do! She is so personable that you instantly warm to her and she fits right with everyone on the day, which is so important. Jenny has a bag of tricks that I had to avail of several times during the day. Scissors, plasters, hair spray – you name it, she has it! The woman literally thinks of everything!
For our wedding band we had Eamonn Toal. These guys were amazing! They were the best band I’d ever seen at a wedding and so I had to have them for ours. Eamonn knows how to work a crowd and get everyone up dancing and enjoying themselves. These guys are just amazing at what they do and we had so much fun and craic with them on the night.
My makeup artist, Judy Wong, was spot on. She listened to me and created the exact look I wanted for the day. Judy has worked on people from the ages of 13 to 59 so she was easily able to adapt her makeup to suit everyone. She fit in really well on the morning of the wedding and joined in with all the fun and laughter.
The boys got their suits from The Formal Suite, who were really friendly and helpful. They put together a great package of very good quality suits at an even better price! These guys really know their trade ad I would definitely recommend them.
